KLM divisional teams play under the umbrella of VYSA (Vancouver Youth Soccer Association) and the BCCSL (BC Coastal Soccer League). Divisional players are streamed into competitive and recreational levels (Division 1,2,& 3) with an increased level of commitment and expectation for higher levels. Welcome (back) to KLM!

First games: Sat/Sun, Sept 12th/13th, 2020 projected
Season: September – March, 2021 (6 months)

KLM has no control over league schedules; all clubs, teams, and officials are obligated to follow them.

Holidays Winter Holidays: Dec 7th – Jan 3rd projected
Games are typically not scheduled during Thanksgiving (mid-October) or Family Day weekend (mid-Feb). The club notifies team officials, who in turn notify players & parents of all schedule changes ahead of time.
Practices Teams practice twice per week. One practice is on turf. The other practice is on grass through mid-October, and then switch to indoor school gymnasiums for winter months (location to be announced).

Practice Schedule: (subject to changes)
U16 teams – Local School (Mon 5:45-7p), VanTech (Weds 6:30-7:45)
U17 teams – Local School (Mon 5:45-7p), VanTech (Weds 7:45-9p)
U18 teams – Local School (Mon 5:45-7p), Livingstone W (Weds 7-8:15)

Players are to arrive 10 minutes before each practice, dressed appropriately. Thank you for communicate your attendance to the coaches. It helps ensure safety, efficiency and harmony

Indoor Gyms Teams have one indoor/futsal-style soccer practice during the winter months. The cost is included in the registration. Indoor practices are held at either 6-7pm or 7-8pm at local school gymnasiums; parents will be notified by their team officials. It is great chance to avoid snowy days and try indoor style of soccer!
Game Times The league typically schedules divisional games late morning to early afternoons. Boys play Saturdays between 8am-8pm; girls play Sunday between 8am-8pm; with the occasionally Friday evening game between 6-8pm. Games range from 70-90 minutes depending on age group. ‘Away games’ are played against other clubs across Greater Vancouver. Typically, the higher the competitive level, the farther the teams can expect to travel.

Speak with your team parents regarding car-rides and car-pooling as KLM wants to ensure all players have access to transportation to/from practices and games.

Equipment Players require shin-guards and cleats; be mindful of shoe-wear for the different fields. KLM provides team jerseys, black shorts and socks which players should wear only on game days. Think weather-appropriate clothes. (See Common Questions below)
Weather We play rain or shine. KLM notifies parents by 7pm Fridays of field closures as is determined by the Vancouver Park Board and/or Vancouver School Board. See Common Questions below regarding ‘Field Status’.

Cost

There are no hidden fees at KLM such as “volunteer fee”, “assessment fee”, and “academy sessions” which can double seasonal registration costs. All KLM players receive the same comprehensive package to the benefit of the players and their teams.

U16-U18 KLM Package:
– $425 early-bird, $495 after September 1st

Coaches KLM assigns all club coaches. Note, some divisional teams opt to hire a qualified coach which can be facilitated and arranged by the club. This is a team official/parent discussion and cost.

Safety?
Safety is first. Please make coaches aware of any potential injuries or illnesses.

Appropriate Clothing?
For practices, players can wear shorts or pants. For games, players need to wear their team jerseys, shorts, and shorts. Note, players can wear thermal-wear under their shorts & jerseys for games. For cold and wet weather, please consider soccer-appropriate hats, gloves, rain-gear or thermal-wear to keep warm. This is a parent/player responsibility.

Goalkeeping require a different skill set and training. All interested KLM players will have the opportunity to learn goalkeeping, as well as receive training.

Parental Attitudes?
Parents have a big impact in youth sports. Modelling positive attitudes, sportsmanship, respectful behaviour and spectator roles is integral to success in youth soccer. Help our coaches make KLM soccer positive for all involved.
